Cyclops Worms (also known as Eyeball Tentacle Creatures) are enemy creatures that appear in the Dragon's Lair series. Possessing a single large eye at the tip of their heads, the creatures usually reside in water and attempt to entangle Dirk the Daring, then drag him into water to completely eliminate his ability to breath.
Appearances[]
Games[]
The Cyclops Worms debuted in the Drawbridge scene of the original Dragon's Lair as Dirk the Daring attempts to cross the bridge and enter the Castle. The scene was cut from the Cinematronics arcade release in the interest of adding variation to the scene order, being relegated to appearances in the game's attract mode. The sequence was later restored to a playable opening sequence in home versions.
They appear briefly in Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp when Dirk crosses the drawbridge again to evade his Mother-in-Law. In the sequel, the creatures appear green rather than purple.
The Cyclops Worms appear as common enemies in Dragon's Lair 3D: Return to the Lair along with their variant Lava Cyclops Worms. The Dragon's Eye is guarded by the Cyclops Worm King, who acquired it after the banishment of Mordroc to an alternate dimension prior to the events of the game.
Books[]
The creatures appear in multiple publications of Marvel Books, often being referred as "Tentacles," which are a distinct breed of enemies that also reside inside the Castle.
The creatures appear in the comic book series as the first enemies Dirk encounters upon reaching the Castle deep in the Dark Kingdom.
Trivia[]
- In 2002, AnJon Toys released a wave of four action figures as a tie-in with Dragon's Lair 3D: Return to the Lair. The Dirk the Daring action figure included an “Eyeball Tentacle Creature” (with four eyes) as an accessory.
