Goblins are a race of villainous creatures who feature exclusively in the Ruby-Spears Dragon's Lair animated series episode "The Pool of Youth." Goblins appear as scaly blue-skinned creatures who reside inside a wrecked castle hall inside the lair of Biralla. They resemble toad-like beings with giant yellow eyes, pointy ears, long limbs and clawed digits, lizard-like tails, and pig-like snouts. They all frequently vocalize the same grunt sound of "willa-roo" in response to any event.
Princess Daphne discovers the first goblin inside an overturned vase, which she describes as "cute and rude" after it snaps at her hand when she tickles its chin. Timothy identifies the creatures as goblins and observes around one hundred of them hanging atop the hall's chandelier, which leads the heroes to conclude that the creatures are responsible for the room's mess. The goblins leap down, attempting to pile onto Bertram and the rest of the heroes, biting and clawing at them. When Dirk the Daring flings several goblins away, the creatures land on top of each other and begin to merge into larger goblins with the same physical characteristics.
As the goblins combined into larger creatures, their strength increases, allowing them to toss heavier objects at the heroes. Once all goblins in the room combined to form a giant, it was unable to follow the heroes out of the hall's doorway, despite being able to break away several stones in the wall.
Trivia[]
- Goblins bear several similarities to The Banshee, which also grows rapidly in size into a cool-colored monster, attempts to chase and devour Dirk, and speaks in largely unintelligible grunts.
