The Apparition is a character who appears exclusively in Don Bluth's multi-episode "Dragon's Lair: Reign of Terror" comic which featured in issues of Don Bluth's Toon Talk magazine published between 2000-2001. The Apparition is a mysterious spectral figure who warns and advises the tyrannical king Vraxxis, since the king is apparently favorable to her presence in his palace. Her real name is unknown, as are her true motives for helping Vraxxis.
Appearance & Abilities[]
The Apparition has vaguely feminine features, most of which are concealed under her spectral cloak and robe. Her partial concealed face reveals monstrous features such as a large bug-like eyes and a massive flexible jaw which contains several sharp and jagged teeth. She appears capable of magical teleportation and can levitate.
Narrative Role[]
Due to his lack of "soul", Vraxxis became frustrated with his failures to create artwork in the palace and was overcome with dread as the timing of the prophecy draws closer. As he monologued to himself regarding the prophecy, The Apparition appeared to interrupt him with a soothing voice. Intrigued by her presence, Vraxxis pleaded his need to see her true face and know her name, but she told him what he needed was "professional help", namely, to hire a mercenary to deal with the threat of the prophesied heir.[1]
