The Yellow Planet is a planet that appears in the Space Ace franchise, debuting in the 1984 arcade game. Its surface is characterized by dry, rocky terrain amongst large thorn patches, all of which appear yellow-tinted.
Games[]
After Dexter lands the Star Pac upon the Yellow Planet, he must evade several aggressive enemy creatures which ambush him: Carniculas, Groots, and the giant Shag. After reaching the exit, Dexter descends below the planet’s surface and encounters Hexter. Kimberly is held captive even further below, in the area occupied by the motorcycle riding Babaloons.
An abbreviated version of the Yellow Planet appears in ReadySoft’s 1989 home computer port and its sequel Space Ace II: Borf's Revenge, although both games blend together hazards and enemies from other sections of the original game.
Trivia[]
- The Yellow Planet may owe its official name to the instruction manual of the Sega CD port of the arcade game.[1]
- Shag, being the most prominent monster on the Yellow Planet, is referred to as the "Yellow Monster" in ReadySoft's instruction manual to Space Ace II: Borf's Revenge.[2]
- Because Ace does not appear to travel to any other planets until defeating Commander Borf, it could be inferred that the Yellow Planet houses Borf’s command center, unless Ace and Kimberly traveled to another planet off-screen in between the Motorcycle Chase and Roller Skates sequences.
